2006 Ohio Health Policy Research Awards Announced
The
2006 winners of the Ohio Health Policy Research Awards have been
announced by the Health Policy Institute of Ohio. This year four
winners were chosen as Ohio’s best researchers for their work on research relevant to health policy issues in the state. The winners were named in a Research Awards Luncheon that took place December 18, 2006, at the Fawcett Center on the Ohio State University main campus in Columbus, Ohio.
Winners were Jennifer Panzo, MPH , Gerry Fairbrother, Ph.D , Deena Chisolm, Ph.D. and Leona Cuttler, MD.
“Award
winners and candidates offer a broad health policy perspective which
directly impacts health policy issues in Ohio,” said William
Hayes, President of the Health Policy Institute of Ohio. “This
isn't research for research's sake. This is about research which
directly helps improve the health and well being of all Ohioans."
Leona
Cuttler won top honors as the Ohio Health Policy Researcher of the
Year. Drs. Cuttler's and colleague J.B Silvers’ submission
examined the decision processes for physician recommendations relating
to treatment termination and the health-to-financial dynamics relating
to such decisions. Drs. Cuttler and Silvers are faculty at Case Western Reserve University.
Deena
Chisolm won Ohio Health Policy Research Award for her work examining
racial disparities in clinical setting using the example of perforated
appendicitis data among children at Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Chisolm is located at the Ohio State University in the Department of Pediatrics.
Jennifer
Panzo won the Best Ohio Health Policy Student Research Award for her
submission examining the reauthorization of the Ryan White Act and its
implications for Ohioans living with HIV/AIDS. Ms. Panzo is a recent
graduate from Case Western Reserve University.
Gerry
Fairbrother wonthe Best Health Policy Research Award for an Independent
Scholar or Practitioner for his submission examining Medicaid data in Ohio, California, Michigan, Oregon, and Pennsylvania
to determine the systemic stability of Medicaid health care coverage
for Children. Dr. Fairbrother is located at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in the Division of Health Policy and Clinical Effectiveness.
