Six new members added to HPIO Board of Directors

Columbus, OH – The Health Policy Institute of Ohio (HPIO) has added six new members to the Institute's Board of Directors. These new directors are all community and health leaders in Ohio, bringing with them decades of experience with health policy issues in the state.

The new board members are:

  • Christopher Goff, President and CEO of Employers Health Coalition of Ohio;
  • Matthew Habash, Executive Director of the Mid-Ohio FoodBank;
  • Gregory Halley, MD, MBA, Commissioner of the Wayne County Health Department;
  • Donna James, Managing Director of Lardon & Associates;
  • Joseph San Filippo, Chief Health Care Strategist, Nationwide Better Health, a subsidiary of Nationwide Insurance in Columbus, Ohio;
  • Scott Streator, RPh, MBA, Director of Health Care for the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS).

Donald E. Hoffman, president and CEO of the Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati and HPIO board chair, called the new board members "proven leaders in the community and state. These individuals bring a wealth of experience to HPIO's board and will help the Institute continue to be the preeminent place for health policy analysis and dialogue in Ohio."

The addition of the new directors expands HPIO's board to 15 members. The new directors begin their terms of office at the July, 2007 board of directors meeting.

The Health Policy Institute of Ohio is an independent, nonpartisan organization that forecasts health trends, analyzes key health issues, and communicates current research to Ohio policymakers, state agencies, and other decision makers. Biographies of New Board Members:

Christopher Goff, JD
Christopher Goff is President and CEO of Employers Health Coalition of Ohio (Canton, Ohio) and its subsidiary, Employers Health Purchasing Corporation of Ohio. He is on the faculty of the College for Advanced Management of Health Benefits, affiliated with Thomas Jefferson Medical College, Department of Health Policy, where he teaches the pharmacy benefits management track. Mr. Goff holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Ohio Northern University, a Master of Arts in Political Science from The University of Akron and a Juris Doctor from the University of Akron School of Law. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Health Lawyers Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, and the Stark County Bar Association.

Matthew Habash
As Executive Director of the Mid-Ohio FoodBank, Matt Habash leads the eleventh largest charitable food distributor in the United States that coordinates the distribution of $34 million worth of food to over 540 charities in 20 Ohio Counties.  Mr. Habash served 14 years on Columbus City Council championing such causes as the 315 Research and Technology Corridor, Big Darby Accord, a 10 year bike trail expansion plan, Community Policing, a citywide Emergency Medical Services Plan and Rebuilding Lives.  Mr. Habash holds a B.A. in Philosophy and an MBA from Xavier University and a M.A. in Public Administration from Ohio State University.

Gregory Halley, MD, MBA
Gregory Halley is Commissioner of the Wayne County Health Department, which provides community-focused services and programs, in collaboration with community agencies and organizations. Dr. Halley is known for his support of public health skills training at the local level, including his involvement in and support of The Ohio State University's Summer Program in Applied Biostatistical and Epidemiological Methods, co-sponsored by HPIO. He is the immediate past president of the Ohio Association of Health Commissioners and co-chairs the Ohio Department of Health-Local Health Department data systems committee. Dr. Halley serves as a member of HPIO's Research and Policy Advisory Committees.

Donna James
Donna James is the managing director of Lardon & Associates LLC and a corporate director for three Fortune 500 public companies. As a former president of Nationwide Strategic Investments and a former executive vice president for Nationwide Insurance and Financial Services, Ms. James has over 25 years of diverse line and staff business experience at the highest corporate levels. In her roles as a corporate director for Coca Cola Enterprises, Limited Brands, Conseco Inc., and Intimate Brands, she has experience serving on the governance, audit, affiliated transaction, compensation, and inclusion committees. In her community, Ms. James is chairman of the Center for Healthy Families and a board member of the Women’s Fund of Central Ohio and the Health Policy Institute of Ohio. She serves as an advisor to the North Carolina A and T State University School of Business and as a faculty member for the Jefferson Academy for Leadership and Governance.

Joseph San Filippo
Joseph San Filippo is Chief Health Care Strategist, Nationwide Better Health, a subsidiary of Nationwide Insurance in Columbus, Ohio. Mr. San Filippo is responsible for health care strategy product development and strategic partnerships. Mr. San Filippo received his BA in business from St. Norbert College in 1969, his MBA from Northern Illinois University in 1975, and completed his Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation in 1985.  He recently served on the Governor’s Ohio Medicaid Study Council and has been on numerous boards and advisory councils. He is currently the Vice Chair of the American Heart Association’s 5-State, Great Rivers Affiliate and is on the board of the Health Policy Institute of Ohio.

Scott Streator, RPh, MBA
Scott Streator is Director of Health Care for the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS), where he is responsible for the administration, strategic development and benefit architecture for the $1 billion program. Mr. Streator began his career as a clinical pharmacist at the world-famous Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He subsequently worked in a variety of management positions at Fortune 500 health care industry companies, including health care plan providers and pharmaceutical manufacturers. Mr. Streator received his pharmacy degree from the University of Maryland and earned an executive master of business administration degree.
