Exposure to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) is a pervasive problem in Ohio and across the nation. In 2020, HPIO launched the Ohio ACEs Impact Project and released a series of policy briefs on the health and economic impacts of ACEs and elevated evidence-based, cost-effective strategies that prevent ACEs.

The latest brief in this series, Strategies to prevent ACEs in Ohio: Promoting positive norms and intervening to lessen harm, describes how a shared sense of responsibility for the health and wellbeing of children can prevent ACEs. This webinar will highlight four evidence-informed strategies from the brief:

  • Community-based violence prevention
  • Drug courts and family treatment courts
  • Trauma-informed care
  • Behavioral health treatment

Our guest speaker will discuss the state’s efforts related to trauma-informed care and resources available to individuals and organizations.

Speakers:

  • Becky Carroll, MPA, Director of Policy Research and Analysis, HPIO
  • June Postalakis, Assistant Policy Analyst, HPIO
  • Amy Hawthorne, MA, OCPSA, Trauma-Informed Care Coordinator, Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services

Support for this project was provided by the Harmony Project, the Ohio Children’s Hospital Association and HPIO’s other core funders.
